The COVID-19 crisis has filled Western New York homes with uncertainty as a result of recent news of positive coronavirus testing in Erie County. At this time, businesses have been instructed to shut down, gatherings and events have been canceled, travel has been restricted, and people are encouraged to remain in their homes. For many of our community members, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) instructions have presented a number of obstacles nearly impossible to overcome.
The Massachusetts Avenue Project (MAP), a nonprofit organization and urban farm located on Buffalo’s West Side, is working with others in Buffalo to ensure food access to those who may be facing challenges during this time of uncertainty, especially the elderly. The nonprofit will be canceling all workshops, classes, and events at the Massachusetts Avenue Project through April 6, 2020 to combat the coronavirus. However, MAP will continue to stay open for Oles Family Farm Promiseland CSA and Flat 12 CSA distribution, in order to provide its members with their weekly box of local produce.
During this time of uncertainty, MAP recognizes the importance of looking out for our neighbors and being of service to those who need the most aid and support. They’re recognizing Community Schools throughout Buffalo providing breakfast and lunch pickup to families with students in the Buffalo community while school is closed. The meal-pickup services run from 11 am to 1 pm, Monday through Friday. You can find the full list of Buffalo Community Schools providing breakfast and lunch meals here.
