Memories of the devasting Hurricane Irma of 2017, had staff and management at Green Turtle Inn jumping into action when Dorian took landfall on the neighboring Bahamas this September.  Donating a portion of net sales to two relief and recovery efforts, Green Turtle leads a community of caring in this area that so recently rebuilt after its own brush with nature’s fury.

Just two years after a devasting storm ravaged the Florida Keys, Mother Nature dealt another powerful blow to the Southeastern United States, this time including the Bahamas in its path.

“It was tough to watch the Bahamas get beaten up by Dorian,” said Terry Nickels, Financial Analyst, Green Turtle Inn. “We knew we had to help our neighbors weather this storm so we quickly came up with a plan to send support their way.”

Since October, the popular restaurant has earmarked 10% of net sales to go toward relief efforts. Monies will be distributed between two organizations: Southeast Rescue & Relief and the Hurricane Dorian Relief and Recovery Fund established by the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust. The Fund was established to benefit fishing guides, lodge staff and others in the Bahamas’s fishing industry who have been severely impacted by the nation’s worst natural disaster in history.

Terry said they’ll continue to collect funds through November 26, knowing guests will feel particularly generous during this season of thanks and giving.

“This community always steps up to help those in need, especially when need strikes so close to home,” said Chris Frank, General Manager, Green Turtle Inn. “We’ve been telling our customers where their dollars are going and they’ve been incredibly generous and supportive throughout the fundraiser.”
