As spring breaks through winter, there’s no better time to plan a weekend getaway to Letchworth State Park and the surrounding Genesee Valley. Often called the “Grand Canyon of the East,” Letchworth is beloved for its awe-inspiring scenery and outdoor activities. Avid hikers, nature enthusiasts and visitors seeking a peaceful retreat will love the region, especially in spring.
Things to Do Around Letchworth State Park
Letchworth State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. The park features 66 miles of trails, including the seven-mile Gorge Trail that takes visitors to all three of Letchworth’s major waterfalls. The Upper, Middle and Lower Falls offer some of the most photogenic spots in the park. Inspiration Point and Archery Field Overlook are also popular points of interest and guests are encouraged to stop by the Humphrey Nature Center. Open year-round, this educational center provides exhibits about the park’s geology, wildlife and plant life.
Spring is also an excellent time for anglers. Trout Pond is a great fishing spot. The newly installed fishing platform makes it easier for visitors to cast a line out. The nearby shores and large rocks close to the pond also make for great fishing.
Stay at the Glen Iris Inn
One of the best ways to fully experience Letchworth is to stay on-site at the historic Glen Iris Inn. Originally the home of William Pryor Letchworth, the inn reopens for the season on May 1, 2025. Caroline’s Dining Room will also reopen to welcome guests for the season for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Starting May 1 through June 20, all Monday through Thursday nights are eligible for spring package pricing, which includes a $99 dining room credit.
As May kicks off the wedding season, the Glen Iris Inn is also offering micro wedding packages through September. Couples can choose from two options: ceremonies for up to 20 or 50 guests. Packages include a beautifully arranged ceremony with seating and staff, reception with cocktail service and hors d’oeuvres, accommodations at the inn, dinner and wedding cake, floral designs, dressing room areas and professional photography. With the stunning backdrop of Letchworth’s waterfalls and serene nature, a Glen Iris micro wedding is a truly unforgettable experience.
