Buffalo summers breeze by faster than most of us would like. Locals know better than to let a single good night go to waste this time of year. When the temperature drops after sundown, there are few better places to be in Western New York than the Buffalo waterfront. This summer, families have another reason to head downtown; after a few years away, outdoor movie nights, presented by Paula’s Donuts, are returning to Canalside and expanding to Terminal B at Outer Harbor.

Family Movie Night Returns to Canalside

Wednesday nights at Canalside this July are reserved for the whole family. The four screenings are free to attend and run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with movies starting shortly after 6. Be sure to arrive early to secure your spot on the lawn! The July lineup features:

  • July 1: Wicked For Good
  • July 15: Zootopia 2
  • July 22: Hamilton
  • July 29: WALL-E

Concessions will be available on-site throughout each screening. Resurgence at Canalside will be open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on movie nights, serving up movie night favorites. Guests can choose from burgers, chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, hot dogs, boardwalk sausage, walking tacos, fried dough, fries and more, plus a full selection of drinks for the kids and craft beer, cider and other alcoholic beverages for adults.

Nick Charlap’s ice cream stand will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Soft serve, hard ice cream, hot fudge sundaes and novelty treats are all on the menu, with soft serve available in a wide range of flavors, including black raspberry, cookie dough, birthday cake and more. Paula’s Donut Dippers will also be available for purchase.

Parking & Transportation

Parking is widely available across several garages, surface lots and metered street spots. Depending on the day and events going on downtown, rates vary from $5 to $15. The Metro Rail is also a convenient option, particularly for those coming from the north. Riders can park at the University or LaSalle stations and ride into Canalside.
